Encouraging Words 3/19/10 Pray to Be Heard of God Not People

From:  Love Worth Finding

“And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.” Matthew 6:5

There was a young professional waiting for a meeting when he heard someone walking down the hallway. Thinking that this could be a potential client, he picked up the telephone and pretended to be having a high-power conversation.

By this time, the footsteps had stopped at his desk. Looking up he asked, “What may I do for you?” The man before him replied, “I’m from the telephone company. I’ve come to hook up your phone.”

Prayer is the same way. The prayer that gets our Savior’s attention comes from the heart and not from the head to be heard by men. Prayers to impress people are one-way conversations.

Find a quiet place in your home where you can be alone with the Lord every day for a special time of communion with the Him. He is waiting for you there.

Our Church is an inclusive Christian community whose worship, communion, and fellowship are open to all without restriction to gender, nationality, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. We affirm that all have access to the love of Christ and service to God. We practice in the Baptist tradition, the core principles of which are:

Soul Freedom - The individual is responsible to none except God, is totally competent to stand before God, and is capable of discerning meaning and action in life and practice under the direct inspiration of the Spirit of God and Holy Scripture.
Bible Freedom - The Bible is our authority in matters of faith and practice and is to be interpreted in its entirety, using the best scholarship and the discernment of the community.
Church Freedom - We are autonomous and congregational in governance. Our practices, policies, associations, and ministries are set by the congregation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and Holy Scripture.
Religious Freedom - The Church and civil government are independent of each other (separation of church and state). We support a free Church and a free state, separate and individually responsible to God.

Encouraging Words 3/18/10 Why is There Suffering in the World?

From:  Love Worth Finding

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36

“If there is a God and that God is a good God, then why is there suffering?” “What kind of a God is it that has created evil?” Ever heard those comments before? Ever made them yourself?

You’re not alone. Many people have thought the same thing. But that’s not straight thinking. Let me tell you the way it truly is.

God did not create evil. God created perfection. God made man perfectly free, and freedom therefore gave rise to evil. In order to love, we must be free to choose to love. Then, in order to choose to love, we have to be able to choose not to love.

Which kind of love do you want from others? A forced love or a free love? Which sounds better, “I love you” or “I have to love you”?

Encouraging Words 3/17/10 Dead to Sin, Alive to Christ

From: Love Worth Finding

“Reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:11

A woman woke up one morning, and noticed that she felt like she had just gone to sleep. She said, “It can’t be six o’clock in the morning!”

But the radio said it was six. The clock said it was six. The sunrise said it was six. Now, I submit to you: it really didn’t matter how she felt, did it?

Sometimes we respond the same way when it comes to our salvation. We need to get our salvation out of the realm of fickle emotions and begin to reckon and count on God’s facts.

Each morning when you wake up, begin by saying, “I am dead to sin. I am alive in Christ. I know it’s a fact, He died for me. Now I reckon it!”

Look up the word “reckon” in the dictionary. Are you reckoning yourself dead to sin and alive to Christ? If not, begin to do so today.

Encouraging Words 3/16/10 Grumbling or Grateful

From:  Love Worth Finding

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4

One day, there was a preacher on a train. He saw a well-dressed man and magnificently dressed woman with expensive jewelry. This woman was complaining about everything – the train ride, the weather, the news, the food, the service.

The preacher decided to engage this couple in a conversation. He asked the man what kind of business he was in and the man told him. Then he asked, “And what does your wife do?”

The man replied, “Oh, she’s in the manufacturing business. She manufactures her own unhappiness.”

You know, there are a lot of people like that today. They manufacture their own misery because they fail to be grateful. Only Christ can turn our lives around and stir up a grateful heart within us.

Go through the alphabet and thank the Lord for something beginning with each letter and choose to be grateful.

Encouraging Words 3/15/10 The Value of a Soul

From: Love Worth Finding

“Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold,...but with the precious blood of Christ.” 1 Peter 1:18-19

I was talking to a man who sold real estate and asked him, “What determines the worth of a piece of property?” He said, “What a person is willing to pay for it.”

In other words, it doesn’t matter how much you paid for it yourself. It’s what another person is willing to pay to have it for himself or herself.

That makes me want to shout! You and I must be worth something if Jesus would pay His life to have us for His own. Jesus is the proof of how much we’re worth.

Do you know how much you weigh? Call a jeweler or a bank today and ask how much your weight is worth in gold. Then realize there’s no comparison to your worth in blood … the blood of Jesus Christ.

From the SNN Library 3/13/10-How to Hear From God: Learn to Know His Voice and Make the Right Decisions

We ALL need to have more assurance that what we think we are hearing from God is really from him.  This book will help.

Amazon.com rankings: 29 out of 33 users gave it at last 4 out of 5 stars
SNN ranking: 4.5 stars

No-nonsense, best-selling author and Bible teacher Meyer explores the various modes God uses to communicate with his listening followers in this book geared for charismatic Christians. While most Christians would agree that the primary vehicle God utilizes to speak to believers is the Bible, Meyer adds several others that may raise eyebrows among conservative evangelicals. She asserts that devout Christians can and do hear from God via dreams, visions, an audible voice and what Meyer calls an "inner witness" that parallels the still, small voice mentioned in Scripture. She aims to encourage Christians to listen well, as she believes that very few followers of Christ ever fulfill God's perfect plan because they haven't perceived God's directives for their lives. Detailing various obstacles to hearing from God, Meyer candidly shares her own battles with busyness before expounding upon the dangers of rote religious activity, stubborn hard-heartedness, worldly viewpoints, unforgiveness and legalism. Finally, she offers the cure for these ills: the grace of God that brings blessed freedom and restoration. Meyer's trademark plainspoken style carries through here; as a spirit-filled spokesperson for God, she writes her words in the same style she would speak them. Some Christians may wonder about her tendency toward "verse claiming"-the many instances where she thinks God is speaking directly to her through a message or lesson given to some biblical character. However, fans of Meyer's previous works will likely be delighted with this newest offering, and its back-to-basics approach will ensure new fans as well.

Encouraging Words 3/13/10 The Whole World in His Hands

From:  Love Worth Finding

“And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.” Colossians 1:17

We sing about the Lord having the whole world in His hands. But do you know what is more remarkable than that? He has the whole universe in His hands.

He’s the One who spoke it into existence. He’s the One who keeps it going. He’s the One who is going to fold it up like a garment and tuck it away in a drawer somewhere. He regulates it; He rules it, and He runs it.

When you pick up the newspaper and read something alarming, you don’t need to panic. That just says “Praise God, I told you so!” God is in control! He, who flung the stars in space, has the whole universe in His hands!

Take the hand of a child today and look at the stars twinkling in the night sky or a flower beginning to bloom, then share about the awesome Creator and Sustainer of all.

Encouraging Words 3/12/10 The Truth Shall Make You Free

From:  Love Worth Finding

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32

Have you ever been to a circus and seen an elephant chained to a stake in the ground? Why doesn’t he break free? Because as a young elephant he was tied to a tree. And try as he might, he couldn’t break free. Now, he is ingrained with the thought that he cannot break free.

How true that is of you and me who have ingrained thought patterns in our lives. We say, “I am chained to this habit, and I can’t break free.” Or we say, “I’m not good enough.” All kinds of lies keep us in bondage, but real truth is what God says, not what we think.

Are there any strongholds in your life that keep you chained to the past? Write down these verses and memorize them.

2 Corinthians 10:4

“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)”

Galatians 5:1

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Now break free from the lies of the past as you tell yourself the truth!

Encouraging Words 3/11/10 Praise the Lord

From:  Love Worth Finding

“Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever.” Revelation 7:12

I heard about a man who got a little excited in a church. He kept shouting, “Praise the Lord!” One day, some of the brethren called on him while he was plowing his fields.

When they were finished talking, he hung his head and said, “I know it’s the truth. I have disturbed the services, but, you know, I sit there and think of what the Lord has done for me . . . how He died in agony and blood for me upon the cross . . . how He’s forgiven all of my sins . . . how He’s filled me with the spirit and . . . here, hold this mule while I shout!”

If being a Christian and going to heaven doesn’t excite you, you have calluses on your soul. It’s exciting to know the Lord Jesus Christ!

When was the last time you raised your hands and shouted “Praise the Lord!” Maybe right now is a good time to do just that!

Sojourners' Alliance is a private, nonprofit organization working toward a vision of dignity and equality for all people. Our mission is to promote the personal growth, empowerment, and self-sufficiency of people in transition by providing decent housing affordable to low-income persons, basic services, education in life and interpersonal skills, counseling, and opportunities for integration into the community.

The organization began in 1991 as the YWCA of the Palouse. Its shelter, the Sojourner Truth House, originally housed homeless women and children. In 1996, the name was officially changed to Sojourners' Alliance, and in 1999, work began on the new shelter site, which is where we are still located today. The new location and buildings allowed for the shelter to begin offering services to not only women and their children, but single men and women as well.

LGBT Helping Hands 3/10/10-Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry (Falls Church)

The Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry (NOVAM) was founded in 1987 by members of concerned faith communities in Northern Virginia who wanted to provide a compassionate response to the AIDS crisis. Since that time, NOVAM has played a significant role in the struggle against the AIDS epidemic by providing responsive programs throughout the region.
The mission of NOVAM is to educate the community about HIV/AIDS, to combat the fear, prejudice, and complacency that surround the disease, and to provide direct services to meet the needs of those who are living with HIV/AIDS. We pledge to serve all those who have been touched by this epidemic, regardless of gender, race, disability, creed, sexual orientation, or national origin.
NOVAM's mission is guided by a clear understanding of the needs of the local community, the particular challenges confronted by people living with HIV and AIDS, and a mandate to respond to the changing face of the epidemic. NOVAM's programs address a two-fold need for prevention of further HIV infection, as well as the critical need to care for people living with HIV and AIDS.

Encouraging Words 3/10/10 Be Angry and Sin Not

From: Love Worth Finding

“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.” Ephesians 4:26

God’s Word tells us to be “slow to wrath” (Proverbs 14:29, James 1:19). There’s nothing that will do more damage to your relationships than unwanted, unwarranted anger. If you are given to anger, let me tell you a couple of things the Bible says, and it won’t be flattering.

First, the Bible says you are foolish. Ecclesiastes 7:9 says, “For anger resteth in the bosom of fools.” Second, you have a weak character. Proverbs 16:32 says, “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.” Uncontrolled anger is like throwing a rock into a wasp’s nest.

Do you have a short fuse? If so, confess it to the Lord. Don’t let Satan get a stronghold in your life. If you get angry today, ask yourself, “What need is not being met?” and give it to the Lord.

We linked to an audio of this message a few months ago, but we thought the video was well worth posting anyway.

Matthew 25 Resource 3/9/10-Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter, Waterville, ME

The Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter is a special place where homeless people are treated as and referred to as guests.

The Shelter is run by a full-time Executive Director, four full-time staff, several part-time staff, and many dedicated volunteers who keep the shelter open from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Registration is from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

\The demand for shelter has been increasing for the last few years and we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of homeless families. On average, our guests stay for about 14 days. We network with several area organizations and concerned citizens to help ensure a better future for our guests.

The Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter has more than 100 volunteers. Volunteers help with cleaning, organizing the shelter, cooking meals, assisting staff with guests' needs, help with preparations for the holidays, sort and store donations of food, furniture, and supplies. Volunteers also aid in getting donations of much needed items such as clothing, books, supplies, toiletries and the like.

Cornerstone Fellowship is an independent, evangelical Christian church called by God to minister to all people, regardless of race, culture, social standing, sexual orientation or gender identity. This ministry, one of reconciliation (...God...gave us the ministry of reconciliation... II Corinthians 5:18), is twofold. First, with those who have never received the gift of salvation, we seek to share the good news of God's forgiveness of their sins through Jesus Christ:
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
And, to those who have already accepted Christ as their Savior, but have been rejected by other churches , we offer the good news from God found in Romans 8:1:
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

The Network/La Red was formed in 1989 when a group of formerly battered lesbians came together to address domestic violence in lesbian and bisexual women's communities in Boston. Initially the group worked to educate the community and existing programs/resources for battered women about the existence of woman-to-woman battering and the need for programs to address it. In 1991, the group incorporated under the name New England Women's Support, Inc. d/b/a The Network for Battered Lesbians. Encouraging Words 3/9/10 To Tell the Truth

From: Love Worth Finding

“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.” Ephesians 4:25

When I was in college, I pastored a little church 130 miles away. One night, as I was driving back home, I realized that one of my headlights was out. I was hoping I wouldn’t get stopped when a highway patrolman pulled me over.

He said, “Son, did you know one of your headlights is out?” I replied, “One of my headlights is out?” He said, “Son, you’d better get that fixed.” I said, “Yes, sir.”

When I got back in the car, the Holy Spirit said, “Adrian, you lied.” I said, “No, I didn’t lie. I told the truth.” He said, “You lied.”

If there is any area in your heart that is not based on truth, you’ve made the devil a home.

I want you to play a game of catch today, but this will only involve one person – you! When the temptation urges you to lie, catch yourself and tell the truth.

Affirming Event: Gentle Spirit Christian Church 12th Anniversary Picinc

Celebrating its 12th Anniversary with a redesigned website and new members, Gentle Spirit Christian Church invites friends, supporters and the public to a picnic celebration at Noon on Sunday, March 21st, in the first picnic pavilion at Candler Park.
Founded on March 15th, 1998, Gentle Spirit Christian Church has met as “The Church Without Walls” in Candler Park since late 2006. Its ministries include homelessness/hunger, addiction, HIV/AIDS, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies.
“The Gentle Spirit congregation of today looks a little different from the one of 12 years ago,” said Rev. Paul M. Turner, founding and senior pastor. “We started the church with a specific ministry to gay Christians, and as we’ve explored what it means to extend God’s welcome to everyone, we’ve become a church where truly anyone can feel they have a place at the table.”
The picnic celebration on Sunday, March 21st is open to the public. Rev. Turner will give highlights from the church’s history, and church members will be invited to share some of their own favorite stories. Attendees are invited to bring a potluck dish to share, but anyone is welcome to attend whether or not they bring a dish, and everyone is welcome to share in the meal and fellowship.
Gentle Spirit Christian Church is an independent, affirming and progressive congregation serving the metro Atlanta community. "The Church Without Walls" meets on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in the first picnic pavilion in Atlanta's Candler Park (1500 McLendon Avenue NE, Atlanta) and also offers a joint service, "Communion in Community", on Sundays at 6:47 p.m. at First Christian Church of Decatur, 601 West Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur. The church's website is at http://www.gentlespirit.org.

Matthew 25 Resource 3/8/10-Harvest Texarcana

Harvest Texarkana, a United Way agency, is dedicated to alleviating hunger through the free distribution of donated excess food to programs feeding those in need and to educating the community about the causes of hunger. Harvest Texarkana serves 10 counties surrounding the Texarkana community. We are a United Way agency. Approximately 140 agencies use Harvest Texarkana’s Food Bank and/or Food Rescue Program.  Approximately 800,000 pounds of food were distributed by Harvest in 2007 Harvest Texarkana’s BackPack Program for needy children supplies underprivileged children with backpacks full of food for each weekend and school holiday. We are currently serving children from 3 school districts and six campuses. Nearly 400 children benefited from this unique program during the 2006-2007 school year. Harvest Texarkana’s services allow area soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries, after school programs and other food assistance programs to be good stewards of their limited resources. Member agencies pay a small shared maintenance fee for the food they receive from Harvest Texarkana. This helps to defray some of the overhead, transportation expenses and frozen food storage fees associated with distributing over three quarters of a million pounds of food. The shared maintenance fee means that agencies can get 10 times as much food for their money at the food bank rather than paying retail or wholesale prices. Truckloads of food are donated from all over the country. Many times the product is donated as a result from over-runs or excess inventory. Agencies can choose from more than 250 different items and are allowed to order as often as they choose.

Encouraging Words 3/8/10 Who You Are in Christ

From:  Love Worth Finding

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

The key to living a victorious Christian life is to discover who you are in Christ. Many Christians have never discovered this. They remind me of the man who had an identity problem and an energy crisis at the same time. He didn’t know who he was and he was too tired to find out.

God doesn’t work from the outside in. He works from the inside out. God doesn’t modify our behavior in order to change us. He changes us in order to modify our behavior.

You’re never going to purify the water by painting the pump. That’s legalism and that’s a dead end to discovering who you are in Christ.

Take God’s Word and find the phrase, “in Christ.” As you find phrases that apply to your life, write those down. Begin with phrases such as “no condemnation” now that you are “in Christ.”

From the SNN Library 3/6/10-Good News and Good Works: A Theology for the Whole Gospel

You don't gain entrance to heaven by your works.  If you are truly filled with the Holy Spirit, however, you should be lead to help others; after all, Jesus commanded us to do that.  This book does a good job in pointing to where churches have fallen down in that area and how they should refocus.

Amazon.com rankings: 6 of 6 users gave it at least 4 out of 5 stars
SNN ranking: 4 stars

"I long for the day when every village, town, and city has congregations so in love with Jesus that they lead scores of people to him and so sensitive to the cry of the poor and oppressed that they work vigorously for justice, peace, and freedom," writes Ronald Sider. In Good News and Good Works, this best-selling author of Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger encourages readers to do evangelism hand-in-hand with social action in order to proclaim a holistic gospel.

Sider begins by analyzing various kingdom mission models espoused by Christians. He explains the dangers of churches following a one-sided model, then goes on to show how to combine evangelism and social concerns in a balanced fashion. This book was previously published by Zondervan as One-Sided Christianity?

Encouraging Words 3/6/10 On "Losing Your Salvation"

From: Love Worth Finding

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3

There are some people who think that you can lose your salvation once you have it. I have one truth that will dispel that idea.

Whether or not you can lose your salvation depends upon how you got it. If you were saved by your good works, then you could lose your salvation by your bad works.

But, God’s Word is very clear on this point. Titus 3:5 says, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”

How is someone saved? By grace. And if it is by grace, then you’re kept by grace. Salvation is not rooted in the merit of man, but in the mercy of God.

Praise God for the regenerating work of His Holy Spirit, for the atoning blood of His Son, and for His calling upon your life.

Affirming Words 3/5/10-"Receiving Guidance From God" Part 2 of 3

This sermon is delieverd Pastor Sherry Phillips from Raging Fire Ministries in Bluefield, WV

Matthew 25 Resource 3/5/10-God's Pantry (Lexington, KY)

Hunger is a disease that diminishes the lives of many Kentuckians. Hunger drains the resources of the elderly and plagues the family, forcing mothers to sacrifice meals so that their children do not have to. Hunger strikes the unfortunate, overwhelming those who are experiencing other unforeseen needs.
This disease is strengthened by poverty. Is a child hungry because she is poor or poor because she is hungry? Studies have shown that poor children are more likely to be sick, more likely to miss school and less likely to succeed. The same is true for hungry children. Hunger affects not just the poor children of Kentucky, but all children, elderly and others who might be in a tight spot and need a helping hand. And it affects more in Kentucky than in most states across the nation.
Yet hunger is a disease that has a cure. For 54 years, God’s Pantry has been collecting and distributing donated food to agencies across central and eastern Ky. Today, God’s Pantry works with over 390 partner agency programs to fight hunger and alleviate the symptoms that accompany it.

Affirming Resource 3/5/10-United Parish in Brookline (MA)

The 220+ members of the United Parish are affiliated with the United Church of Christ, United Methodist, and American Baptist denominations. A number of our congregants come from a variety of Christian and other traditions, or have limited experience with organized religion. All are welcome on our spiritual journey together.

How did we come to be a United Parish? In the 1970’s, three Protestant churches in Brookline merged and began a new life together. They brought together different traditions, styles of worship, and theological outlooks from the denominations. What they had in common was a faith in a God who was made known in Jesus Christ, a commitment to the church, and a belief that they were called to something new. Their ecumenical venture celebrated the unity of the Christian church and witnessed to its diversity.

More than thirty years later, the United Parish in Brookline is a vibrant community that still celebrates and witnesses to that vision. We are a community of seekers that supports the spiritual growth of its members and reaches out to those in need.

Shared worship is the core of our life together, and we have varied lay ministries of music, education, service and fellowship. While we honor our traditions, we are open to new ideas and are always looking for new leadership in shaping our program offerings to meet the needs and interests of the community.

Encouraging Words 3/5/10 Just As I Am

From:  Love Worth Finding

“To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved.” Ephesians1:6

Do you have a know-so salvation? What I mean is: do you know that you are saved and have the assurance that if you died tonight, you’d spend eternity with the Lord in heaven?

Many folks don’t have that assurance, and in some cases, it is not a spiritual problem. It is a psychological problem. They cannot accept the fact that God has accepted them.

Charlotte Elliott penned these words to a timeless hymn of assurance:

“Just as I am, without one plea,
but that Thy blood was shed for me,
and that Thou biddest me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!”

You are accepted just as you are. It is all grace.

Find the hymn “Just As I Am” and sing it to the Lord. Make it your song throughout the day when Satan tries to make you doubt God’s love and eternal gift of salvation.

Encouraging Words 3/4/10 Defining Your Personal Value

From:  Love Worth Finding

“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” Romans 12:3

Do you try to be the best or do you simply try to do your best? The perfectionist has to be the best. He has to be #1. He can’t accept himself.

The grace of God exalts a man without inflating him, and it humbles a man without debasing him. The person who strives for excellence says, “I am what I am by the grace of God.”

Do you value yourself by what you do or by what you are? You have a choice. You can either choose to see yourself as God sees you or you can choose to see yourself as the world sees you. Whose opinion will you listen to today?

Is there someone in your life whose opinion matters deeply to you? Instead of defining who you are by their opinions, measure yourself by God’s standard in His Word.

Encouraging Words 3/3/10 Perfectionism is a Thief

From: Love Worth Finding

“For He hath made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Did you know that your performance doesn’t make you any more or less in God’s eyes?

If you think that God is going to accept you on the basis of your quiet time, your Bible study, or your service, you will fall into a trap of never knowing if you’ve done enough. You’ll never truly feel accepted.

Perfectionism is a thief. It promises rewards, but it steals joy and steals satisfaction. Why? Because perfection is an unattainable goal. If you are a perfectionist, you have set an impossible goal for yourself, and therefore you will constantly be faced with frustration and failure.

•You are forgiven in Christ.

•You are righteous in Christ.

Are you a perfectionist? Ask the Holy Spirit to free you from the fear of failure. Now, make a conscious decision that you can be less than perfect and still be loved by God.

LGBT Helping Hands 3/2/10-Oasis Services (Boone, NC)

Domestic violence is a serious issue in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) relationships. Abuse in LGBT relationships happens for the same reasons as in heterosexual relationships: to maintain control and power over one’s partner. Domestic violence occurs in same-gender relationships at the same rate as heterosexual relationships (about 1 in 4).

As in heterosexual couples, the problem is extremely underreported. Because LGBT individuals face a society oppressive and hostile towards them, LGBT persons are often afraid of revealing their sexual orientation or the nature of their relationship in order to receive help. LGBT communities can be small, and abuse survivors may have to plan for running into her or his abuser at meetings or community events. Conversely, survivors may not know others who are LGBT, meaning that leaving the relationship could result in total isolation. OASIS understands the complexity of these issues and is prepared to assist LGBT survivors in making decisions about safety that will best serve the survivor.

Encouraging Words 3/2/10 Justice, Mercy and Grace

From:  Love Worth Finding

“...the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11

There are three words that came together at Calvary:

•justice
•mercy &
•grace.

Justice is getting what we deserve. Mercy is not getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we don’t deserve.

But wait a minute; grace is more than that! It is grace that gives at great cost to the giver. It is not cheap. Grace cost the life of God’s Son. Jesus gave freely of Himself in agony and blood.

Did you know that grace has to chase us down? If God didn’t run faster than us, we would never be saved! Grace seeks to give to vile and wicked people that which they don’t deserve and can never deserve.

Are you a grace-giver? Find someone today and do a favor for them – something for which they couldn’t possibly repay you. Perhaps it will even be for a stranger you will never see again.

IHN's trained volunteers welcome homeless families to their churches and offer a caring, interactive environment.  Network guests often form valuable and beneficial friendships with congregation members. Many guests have discovered community resources, employment leads, and housing opportunities through interactions with volunteers.

Matthew 25 Resource 3/1/10-Scottish Churches Housing Action

We believe there can be a Scotland free of homelessness.

This means everyone can live in homes which

:: they can afford
:: offer comfort and dignity
:: offer support appropriate to the needs of different stages of their lives.

We exist to mobilise the churches towards this end:

:: we link local work to help homeless people with national work to prevent homelessness
:: we speak out on behalf of the churches
:: we promote practical support for homeless people as an integral part of outreach and pastoral ministry.

From our Edinburgh base, Scottish Churches Housing Action:

:: develops and builds local initiatives
:: campaigns for a better deal for homeless people
:: educates the churches on homelessness
:: promotes innovative approaches
:: links up people across Scotland
:: looks to the future.

Encouraging Words 3/1/10 The Initiating Grace of God

From:  Love Worth Finding

“We love Him, because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

When I was in the sixth grade, I wrote a love note to Joyce Louise Gentry. Then she became my bride and my beloved. Do you know she still has that note? From that time on she began to take an interest in me. Do you know why? Because I first loved her.

Do you know what the Bible is? It is God’s love letter to you. It is God saying to you, “I have set my eye upon you. I love you!”

You’re not saved by doing good works. You’re not saved by joining a church. You are saved by the grace of God that said, “I love you” first.
•When was the last time you wrote a love letter?

•When was the last time you received one?

•Spend some time today and write a love letter to the Lord.

Affirming Resource 3/1/10-True Love Apostolic Church, Indianapolis, IN

Our Vision is local in our desiring to build a strong GLBTS affirming, prayerful, worshiping, loving, cutting-edge, tolerant, accepting Apostolic Pentecostal fellowship in the Indianapolis Metropolitan area. A church that does 4 things: 1. Glorifies God with our worship, attitude, and actions. 2. Edifies each other by equipping and discipling ourselves to be all God wants us to be for others and ourselves. 3. Reaches out to provide hope and help to those disenfranchised from church or without God in their lives. 4. Provides a refuge from the storms and trials of life. Our vision is to present quality ministry to the many different needs of as many persons as possible. Our vision is national in being actively involved in seeking to establish other churches or connect with existing churches in other cities across the United States, and the development of ministers and laborers to be sent to the harvest field. Our vision is global in that we promote missions around the world that preach the accepting, affirming, and anointed Gospel.
