Affirming Resource 2/13/10-The LGBT Religous Archives Network
Overview
The LGBT Religious Archives Network (LGBT-RAN) is an innovative venture in preserving history and encouraging scholarly study of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) religious movements around the world. LGBT-RAN has a two-fold basic purpose. First it assists LGBT religious leaders and groups in determining how best to preserve their records and papers in appropriate repositories. Secondly, LGBT-RAN provides an electronic information clearinghouse for these archival collections and other historical data about LGBT religious history for the use of historians, researchers and other interested persons. LGBT-RAN can best be understood as a "virtual" archive. It is not a physical repository that collects and preserves papers and records. Instead, LGBT-RAN is a resource center that enables the preservation of history and makes historical information easily accessible through this web site. Initiated in 2001 as a project of the Chicago Theological Seminary, LGBT-RAN has been a program of the Center for Lesbian & Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry in Berkeley, California, since 2008
Recognizing that history is written from the perspective of those who preserve their records, LGBT-RAN's overarching purpose is to ensure the preservation and accessibility of the voices and experiences of a great diversity of LGBT religious leaders and groups.
Mission Statement
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Religious Archives Network (LGBT-RAN) coordinates and supports the identification, collection and preservation of personal papers and organizational records from lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender religious movements. To encourage scholarly research and historical study of these important movements for social change, LGBT-RAN disseminates information about these records and provides and facilitates access to them, using digital technology when possible.

From the SNN Library 2/13/10-Anything But Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth
This book was a real eye-opener for us, helping us understand the fundamental deceit that appears to be predominant among the leadership of the ex-gay movement.
Amazon.com ratings: 16 of 24 reviewers gave it at least 4 out of 5 stars
SNN rating: 4 out of 5stars
The real story behind “ex-gay” ministries and reparative therapy!
Nationally known activist Wayne Besen spent four years examining the phenomenon of “ex-gay” ministries and reparative therapies—interviewing leaders, attending conferences, and visiting ministries undercover as he accumulated hundreds of hours of research. The result is Anything but Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth, a groundbreaking exposé of the controversial movement that's revered by independent religious groups and reviled by gay and lesbian organizations. The book presents a historical perspective on the dispute, examining “ex-gay” groups such as Love In Action, Exodus International, Homosexuals Anonymous, and profiling a cast of characters that includes Pat Robertson, the Rev. Jerry Falwell, “ex-gay” poster boy John Paulk, National Association of Research and Therapy of Homosexuality activist Richard Cohen, and psychiatrist Dr. Robert Spitzer.
An in-depth, well-researched, and historically significant account, Anything but Straight is full of startling facts and alarming surprises. The original content and novel material in the book includes:
* a first-ever comprehensive history of the “ex-gay” ministries and “reparative therapy”
* the inside story of the night the author photographed “ex-gay” poster boy John Paulk inside a gay bar
* the author's discovery that Anne Paulk lied about being a lesbian and has admitted to having a strong attraction to men BEFORE she became “ex-gay”
* previously undisclosed bizarre techniques used by the “ex-gay” ministries and “reparative therapists”
* the author's exclusive in-depth interviews with leading “ex-gay” leaders—they disclose their deepest secrets, hidden desires, and true motivations
* an extraordinary new study that shows that most “ex-gay” leaders have suffered from substance abuse or severe emotional problems—while many “ex-gay” leaders claim they were “unhappy being gay,” this report helps prove that their dissatisfactions came not from their homosexuality, but from poor life choices and irresponsible behavior
* new revelations that one of the nation's leading “reparative therapists” hailed from a secretive cult that was scandalized for practicing nude therapy

Encouraging Words 2/13/10 Praying, "Thy will be done on earth."
From: Love Worth Finding
“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.” Matthew 6:9-10
When you pray, “Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done . . . on earth as it is in heaven” do you realize that this prayer has not yet been answered, but it will be answered?
Jesus Christ is literally, actually, visibly, bodily coming back to this earth. Do you believe that? Do you think that Jesus Christ would have taught us to pray this prayer if it would not have been answered? His kingdom has not come yet on earth. His will is not being done on earth. But it shall be; it will be because our Lord taught us to pray that.
When you read or watch the news today, how do you see God’s will not being done on earth? Ask the Lord that His will would be brought to earth — praying for the people involved in each story — for their welfare and their salvation.

Matthew 25 Resource 2/12/10-River of Life Mission (Honolulu, HI)
Each day hundreds of needy people receive help at the Mission. People from all walks of life come through the doors: the homeless, the elderly, and the addicts. Add to the mix those who are mentally ill, and the forgotten veteran, the disabled individual, the aging prostitute and those recently released from prison. They come to receive meals, showers, clothing, spiritual help, or assistance from a social worker. Some come simply to use the bathroom. Many who come are lost and invisible people who have somehow slipped through the cracks.
There are a few guests who come to the Mission in need of temporary assistance to get back on their feet. For these, the Mission’s rescue services are all that's needed.
But the majority of Mission guests are chronically destitute. Because of addiction, illness or destructive decisions and behavior they habitually rely on the Mission for sustenance. Our rehabilitation and reintegration programs are designed for these people. This requires a different perspective to change a life.
We believe the only means to truly accomplish change is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We do this by following His example of compassion and care as we reach out to help people.
The rehabilitation and reintegration programs remain Christ-centered through Bible study, counseling, prayer and worship, and life skills classes. As a result, it is common for a former guest to become motivated and find full-time employment. In fact, some of our staff are former guests who have successfully completed our Residential Program.

Affirming Resource 2/12/10-Expressions Community Fellowship, Oklahoma City, OK
To be a church where all people, no matter their individual expressions, can join on the journey toward God, together in community, giving them a greater purpose in life; with the ultimate goal of reaching people with the good news that Jesus loves them.
The worship experiences are designed to reach the unchurched and minister to believers through contemporary music and Biblical messages that are relevant for our community.
God can do anything, you know-far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us but by working within us His spirit deeply within us. Ephesians 3:20 (MSG)

LGBT Helping Hands 2/12/10-We Are Family (Charleston, SC)
We Are Family, which began in April 1995 under the direction of Tom Myers, initially focused on the use of direct mail to provide constructive information to people/community leaders that gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning youth would normally seek out for counsel and support. The staff sought out speaking engagements whenever possible, at churches and other public places to spread a message of understanding and acceptance. In early 1997, we began to offer direct services (Safe Space) to GLBTQ youth in the Tri-County area through a weekly peer support group.
We are an all-volunteer, donation-supported organization run by a dedicated Board of Directors and sustained by willing volunteers from the Charleston area community. Our Board and volunteers represent a diverse group of volunteers, both gay and straight, from many different professions, age groups, genders, and faiths.
Through We Are Family, youth have participated in national events and training for leadership roles in the community, initiated creative ways to support local needs such as Habitat for Humanity and HIV/AIDS service organizations and networked for social and educational events with similar groups in our region and nation.

Encouraging Words 2/12/10 The Importance of Character and Integrity
From: Love Worth Finding
“The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.” Proverbs 20:7
This world says, “If we could just arrange conditions so that we never had any sorrow, pain, or hurts, then we could change men. If we can change conditions, then we can change character.”
But the Bible teaches just the opposite. The world puts the emphasis on condition. God puts the emphasis on character.
Someone has well said you can’t purify the water by painting the pump. And yet that’s what we try to do. We think that if we can change the exterior or make conditions such that we never have any hurts, then we’re going to be okay. But Jesus put the emphasis upon character — on what you are, not what you have.
Is there someone in your life that you admire? Someone who is a person of integrity? Praise God for His work in that person’s life and give him or her a word of encouragement today.

Matthew 25 Resource 2/11/10-Care and Share Foodbank for Southern Colorado
Utilizing a national network of resources, Care and Share Food Bank helps more than 400 member agencies provide food security to southern Coloradans in need. Unlike the member agencies it serves, Care and Share acts not as a local food pantry but as a regional hub, connecting a variety of nutritious food resources to those in need. By emphasizing education and awareness, and stressing advocacy on a local and national level, Care and Share also connects with businesses, organizations, government entities and individual community members in united participation in the fight against hunger.
Last year, Care and Share Food Bank distributed more than 11.3 million pounds of food to those in need. With your assistance, we will bridge the gap between hunger and abundance. Through community involvement, strong partnerships, efficient utilization of our nation's bounty and increased food distribution capacity, Care and Share Food Bank will eliminate hunger in southern Colorado.

Affirming Resource 2/11/10-New Covenant Church of Atlanta (GA)
Welcome to New Covenant Church of Atlanta. We are friends of Jesus who follow Him, seek to discover His plans and purposes, do those plans and purposes, and then build our whole culture as a people around Who He is, What He Says, and What He Does... We seek to build our lives, homes, churches, conversations, and everything that we are around Him. Many of us also happen to be lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender, and straight.
We are a worship center that celebrates in the Charismatic-Pentecostal tradition. We consider ourselves a "restorationist church" seeking to see people restored to God's dream and ideal for their lives (Acts 3:21)
We exist as a church to demonstrate God's Presence and Love, to bring Him the highest honor and Glory, to reach the lost with the precious Gospel of Jesus Christ, to declare the prophetic purpose of the GLBT community, to explore and demonstrate the outpouring of God's Holy Spirit on our community, and proclaim the LGBT community's place in the Kingdom of God, and to equip believers to become all God has called them to be
Our prayer, for you, as you are visiting this website, is that something of the Overwhelmingly Gracious Eternal Nature of our loving King will grip you and be imparted to you, and in so doing, He will gain more Glory and more Honor as He is lifted up. He is the Famous One, and we seek the expansion of His Honor and Glory in the earth through ALL PEOPLE!!! (Acts 2:17 / Isaiah 9:7)

LGBT Helping Hands 2/11/10-The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada (Las Vegas)
The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada is a community-based organization which supports and promotes activities directed at furthering the well being, positive image, and human rights of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community and its allies in Southern Nevada.
The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada [The Center], a 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in the fall of 1992 through efforts inspired by the Friday Night Men’s Rap Group at the Community Counseling Center. Initially, The Center board of directors met in a small room at Community Counseling, but in 1993 The Center obtained its own building at 912 East Sahara Avenue. This small former dental office on a side street became the first safe public space in Las Vegas for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people. The Nevada legislature that year repealed the state’s sodomy law and the Las Vegas gay community rallied to celebrate and dedicate its new Center on October 15, 1993.
Within a few months of opening, The Center offered the community a host of services and programs. It provided free HIV testing; office space for the Nevada Gay Rodeo Association, the NAMES Project, the Lambda Business Association, PFLAG, the Delta Lambda Phi gay fraternity, SAGE [Senior Action Gay Environment]; and meeting space for groups in support of lesbians, gay youth, gay and lesbian parents, Hispanics, gay seniors, transgendered people—even a gay science fiction club. On January 23, 1994 The Center sponsored the first annual Man and Woman of the Year Award, known today as the Honorarium.
By 2001, however, The Center had outgrown its small building and the board searched for larger space. They found a 6,000 square-foot storefront across Sahara Avenue in Commercial Center which once housed the Second Time Around Thrift Shop, a fundraising enterprise for Aid for AIDS of Nevada. The Center moved into this space in February 2002 and held its ribbon-cutting and dedication on October 11, 2002 as part of Las Vegas’s National Coming Out Day celebrations. In 2006, The Center moved a couple of doors down where it expanded to include a computer lab, two large meeting/game rooms and a comfortable community room/library. In the near future community groups will begin leasing space at The Center so that more services and organizations will be able to serve the gay community.
Like Las Vegas, The Center is constantly growing and will continue serving the Southern Nevada LGBT community in whatever way it can. Watch for exciting changes and major announcements as we embark on celebrating our 15th anniversary in 2008!

Encouraging Words 2/11/10 God the Father, and God the Creator
From: Love Worth Finding
“…that we may be partakers of the divine nature...” 2 Peter 1:4
Have you heard the phrase, “The universal fatherhood of God and the universal brotherhood of men”? It sounds warm and fuzzy, but it is cold and barren of truth.
God is not the Father of all people; God is the Father of those who are born into His family. But you say, “But, Pastor, didn’t God create all human beings?” Yes. “And if God created all human beings, wouldn’t that make God the Father of all human beings?” No, it makes God the Creator of all human beings.
There’s a difference between fatherhood and creation. God created rats, roaches, buzzards, and rattlesnakes. He’s not their father. God becomes our Father not by creation but by conception when we’re born into His family.
Read the story of creation in Genesis, making the distinction between the creations of God and the Creator called God. Go on a nature walk and thank God that He rules over creation causing the sun to shine, the rain to water the earth, and for you to have your next breath.

Affirming Resource 2/10/10-Beacon of Hope Ministries, Clearwater, FL
Beacon of Hope Ministries was birthed in September of 2001 out of an intense desire to see the Word of God become mightier in people's lives. Having pastored for many years, I've learned that the best thing we can do for the ones who come into our ministry is to teach them the Word of God. We must realize that what answers or direction we might have for the problems that are brought to us must be based on the principles and wisdom of God's precious Word to us.
We began Beacon of Hope in my living room on September 29, 2001 and then began renting space on the 11th floor of the Ramada Inn overlooking the bay the very next week. The Hilton on Lois Ave. gave us an opportunity for a better space within our first month and we moved there in early October 2001. We were blessed with an excellent facility and great services during our 11 months at the Hilton. In August of 2002, we acquired the storefront facility at 4023 West Waters Avenue in Tampa. In January 2005, God moved us again as growth took over to the facility at 2901 West Busch Blvd. We made it our own by adding the old cross and an antique church bench I had in my church in Indiana. Now again the beautiful bench and cross will move with us as God is directing us to new ministry opportunites in Dunedin in Pinellas County where we met in our beautiful new facility on Main Street. Now, after an unfortunate accident where an automobile drove through the front of the building, we now meet in Clearwater in our new "temporary" home. Check out our directions or home page for more information.
We are continually thrilled to see lives being changed and hope restored to so many as they come and enter into the ministry at Beacon of Hope. We have many, many wonderful reports of the mighty move of God in our people's lives over the last eight years. We now begin our ninth year of ministry and we continue to accept willingly the challenges and triumphs as they come our way at Beacon of Hope.
You are welcome to come and experience the mighty move of God in our services and to learn the Word of God and how it can give you hope for your life. Perhaps you will find in Beacon of Hope the church home that you have needed and are looking for....
we hope so.
In His love and for His glory,

Encouraging Words 2/10/10 Gathering in His Name
From: Love Worth Finding
“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20
There is something wonderful about unity. I heard about a fellow who courted a girl by writing her a beautiful love letter every day for two years. He thought that would be a wonderful way to court her.
Do you know what happened? She married the mail carrier! There is nothing like being there. There is nothing like personal contact. There is a sense in which Jesus Christ is present when His people gather that’s not in any other sense. You cannot get it the same way at home.
Do you have a church home? If not, I encourage you to find one today.
If church attendance isn’t important, I wonder why Satan works so hard to keep folks away. If you do have a church home, make a special effort this week to meet a new friend and find a need they have which you can meet.

Matthew 25 Resource 2/9/10-Carpenter's Shelter (Alexandria, VA)
Our Vision
A community where all live safely and affordably.
Our Mission
To end homelessness through services, education and advocacy.
Our doors have been open since 1988 – a long time. But today we are still working tirelessly to overcome homelessness among children, families, and adults. Our job ends when homelessness ends, when all people can become contributing members of their community.
When you go home at night, do you think, “Everyone deserves to live in safe, affordable housing”?
We know in our hearts this is true. We teach positive ways of living to clients aimed at preventing repeated episodes of homelessness. Our services provide six interrelated programs, which form a continuum of care all the way through to Aftercare, for those who reach independent living in the community.
Only with your help are we able to do what we do every day – improve people’s lives. Carpenter’s Shelter is a nexus where volunteers, donors, and corporate sponsors come together to end homelessness together. People of all walks of life, in addition to other nonprofits, businesses and congregations are essential to our mission, and form our Strategic Alliances.
With your help, we envision an environment for people we serve, where:
•All live as independently and self-reliantly as possible.
•Quality permanent housing is available for all income levels.
•Local/regional/state governments allocate all the resources necessary to prevent homelessness.

Encouraging Words 2/9/10 Burning Brightly for the Glory of God
From: Love Worth Finding
“And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush.” Exodus 3:2
Major Ian Thomas has imagined Moses saying something like this when he encountered God in the burning bush, “Would you look at that bush? It just keeps on burning for God. I wish my life could burn for God like that and keep on burning.”
Then Major Thomas imagined God replying, “Moses, you think this bush is so wonderful? Do you see that bush over there? I could do the same thing with it. Moses, it’s not the bush; it’s God in the bush. Any old bush will do.”
It’s not you! It’s not me! We are only the vessels of God’s anointing. As you surrender yourself to God today, He will fill you and use you for His glory.
Surrender yourself to God today, and, as you do, He will use you. Allow His flame to burn brightly for all to see.

BCF Praise Report 2/8/10
And saying, "Repent ye: for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."
Matthew 3:2
Greetings BCF Family & Friends!
Welllll.....you've already heard how the whole Mid-Atlantic got socked in with another snow storm! We had 3 feet of snow in our area, and we're still digging out! It's been a wonder to behold, and an irritant to clean up! But the opportunity to have quality relaxation time has been rejuvenating for many. So, we are praising God and getting ready for another one tomorrow!
Sadly, we were not able to gather for worship at BCF yesterday. But several of us joined Living Water Fellowship in Seattle's uStream broadcast and had a great time with the Cyber Church! I want to encourage you to get that term, Cyber Church, in your vocabulary and have the spiritual eyes to 'see' that technology is making it possible for ALL of us to gather together at one time- all across the Globe- and worship the Lord together! We're just seeing the infancy stage of where this is going! I'm excited about it and want to encourage all of us to be thinking about the possibilities for touching every nation, every tongue and tribe in the world! And so we shall, and Jesus will be exalted in His Church!
During worship yesterday, the Holy Spirit spoke this to me, "Power, power- I am releasing POWER into YOU ALL; Rise up, Rise up and be ZEALOUS for God!" Later on I did a word study on the word "zealous" and found several scriptures where it speaks of being zealous for God, some were scriptures of correction to us all- reminding us to get serious about either being hot or cold for God, not lukewarm. (Rev. 3:14-22) I know that we are experiencing a great 'awakening' to the presence and power of God- and I exhort each of you to stir up your hunger and craving for the Lord Jesus- to know Him, to experience Him like never before, to walk in the FIRE of the presence all the time, everywhere we go! YES! Ask God to give you a new passion and FIRE for Him, ask Him to Baptize you in Holy Fire!! And then come together in praise and worship, giving GLORY to the Lord- and we WILL SEE His Glory! We WILL EXPERIENCE signs, wonders and miracles, we ARE, and we WILL SEE even greater things! HOW? By pursuing your relationship with Jesus Christ zealously, with ALL of your heart!
As much as I have learned, as far as I think I have come in my walk with the Lord, I am hungrier than ever before- and passionate about walking in the FULLNESS of His presence! Let's each of us take the responsibility and stir up our faith and intensify our commitment to press on to the High Call of God on our lives! Remember: BELIEVING IS SEEING!!! And we are Believers in Jesus, the Lord of Glory!!
MARK YOUR CALENDAR and join us LIVE and ONLINE for a cyber church gathering from the Nation's Capital. BCF is going to have a "Spring Spiritual Energizer Weekend" of worship, special music, powerhouse preaching, and Holy Spirit FIRE! We want to invite you to START connecting with the various cyber church broadcasts of events that we and other ministries are beginning to do around the nation and Canada. Many of us can't always GO TO another city to join in a worship gathering or conference, but we sure can join together online. So, mark your calendar for March 19th, 20th, and 21st. Check our website for further details. Apostle Micah Daniels from Seattle, Josh Weiberg from BCF, Janice LaCount from Dallas, and more will be online ministering on "Living in Pentacostal Power!" It will surely energize you just in time for spring/summer outreach events. IF you are able to come and join us in DC, you are more than welcome in person, too! Pray for us!
We love you with the love of the Lord Jesus, and send you our warmest embrace. We're praying for you, too!
Shalom and in Christ's love,
Ap Dale

Matthew 25 Resource 2/8/10-Arkansas Foodbank Network
he Arkansas Foodbank Network has been working since 1984 to eliminate hunger in Arkansas by providing nutritious food to those in need. In 2008, we distributed almost 11 million pounds. We distributed 1.6 million to other food banks in the state and more than 9.2 million pounds of food to our more than 400 member agencies in 33 Arkansas counties. That is about 55,000 pounds of food per day. Ninety-five percent of everything the Foodbank receives is allocated to programs, enabling our agencies to serve about 23,000 hungry Arkansans in any given week.

The King James version of John 3:16 says, "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that Whosever believeth in Him should not perish but should have eternal life."
God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.
God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world. He sent his Son to save the world through him. Anyone who believes in him is not judged. (John 3:16-18a - NIRV)
At Casa de Cristo it does not matter what your past has been. It does not matter who you live with and love. Encouraging Words 2/8/10 He Alone is Worthy
From: Love Worth Finding
“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.” Revelation 5:12
There’s an interesting story about how a gifted violinist named Fritz Kreisler acquired a Stradivarius violin.
Kreisler heard about the violin owned by an old Englishman and offered to buy it, but the old man said it wasn’t for sale. One day Kreisler ventured to the old man’s house and said, “If I can’t buy it, may I touch it?” The old Englishman invited him in and even allowed him to begin making music with it. Great tears welled up in the old Englishman’s eyes, and he said, “It is not for sale, but it is yours. You are the Master and alone are worthy of it!”
That is what worship is all about. God is the Master, and He alone is worthy.
Starting with the letter “A “, and going through the alphabet, find something to praise Him for with each letter – for all that He is, has been, and will be!
