Rev. Peter Gomes--Jesus Would Approve of Same-Sex Marriage

Rev. Peter Gomes draws from passages in the Bible to conclude that Jesus would accept gay marriage.

"Jesus approves of any institution that supports fidelity and loyalty while "recreating the kingdom of God between two individuals," Gomes concludes, and same-sex marriage falls within that category.

  1. "fidelity and loyalty while "recreating the kingdom of God between two individuals,"

Where does Rev. Gomes get the idea that it has to be between only two individuals? Why isn't fidelity and loyalty between many individuals in a plural marriage just as good? And who's to say what ages they need to be? Just because the government has some kind of law doesn't mean that Jesus would agree. After all just because He said that a man shall join his wife, doesn't mean that His concern was actually the nature of the relationship but the fidelity and the loyality of the relationship. A nice 12 year old boy, mature for his age of course, might make the perfect partner for an older man. As long as they're loyal to each other - according to Jesus and Rev. Gomes that is.
