The mission of GLO is to support the well being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered individuals in the Greater Springfield, MO area by organizing and sponsoring community events and increasing the public understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered citizens.

GLO is accomplishing our mission and our vision in several unique ways. Through outlets such as Pride Fest, and the Queen City Cabaret, GLO offers the community a celebration of its creative talent and spirit. Our partnership with the Forest Institute now allows for free professional counseling, and our support and social groups continue to further our aim of increasing public awareness and understanding of LGBT issues and concerns. lGBT Helping Hands 4/29/10-The NW Network (Seattle, WA)

The Northwest Network increases our communities' ability to support the self-determination and safety of bisexual, transgendered, lesbian, and gay survivors of abuse through education, organizing and advocacy. We work within a broad liberation movement dedicated to social and economic justice, equality and respect for all people and the creation of loving, inclusive and accountable communities.

We provide support and advocacy for LBGT folks of all genders who are surviving abuse. We are leather and kink friendly.

Our services are free and confidential. They include support groups, individual counseling, legal advocacy, shelter referrals, safety planning, basic needs assistance, community education and community organizing.

The Rainbow Center's mission is to eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity by providing education, resources, information and opportunities for empowerment to individuals and organization with the south Puget Sound area. We find our activities falling into three general categories.


* Educate - to provide information to all individuals and groups about the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersexed, Questioning/Queer and Allied individuals community in an effort to eliminate harmful stereotypes
* Advocate - to ensure that Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersexed, Questioning/Queer and Allied individuals receive the same basic human rights as all other citizens of pierce County, the State of Washington and the United States.
* Celebrate - to acknowledge pride in who we are as valuable creative members of a diverse population in this county, state, and country.

LGBT Helping Hands 4/15/10-District 202 (St. Paul, MN)

n 1991, a group of concerned adults and youth gathered around a kitchen table to discuss a concern.  There were no safe and supportive, sober and drug-free places—or safe spaces—for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth. Through a unique youth/adult partnership, District 202 opened its doors less than a year later.
Then something remarkable happened in this newly created “safe space.” LGBT youth created a new community of their own design, without the daily isolation or pressures of those times. And with it, these youth found their voices, built their self-confidence and mentored their peers. They became empowered.

Now 18 years later, this pioneering “safe space,” which gave birth to six LGBT youth-serving organizations and became a model for many more, is evolving. District 202’s mission has not changed, but how it delivers on that mission has changed. This change is the culmination of three years research, a community roundtable/assessment, youth surveys, and discussions with current and potential funders.

District 202 continues to empower LGBT youth through a unique blend of programs, face-to-face interaction throughout the Twin Cities and online engagement through our secure social networking site. Creating safe spaces online and throughout the Twin Cities is the most efficient and effective use of our and our community’s resources.

LGBT Helping Hands 4/12/10-Dennis R. Neill Equality Center (Tulsa, OK)

Owned and operated by Oklahomans for Equality, the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center serves the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) and allied community. It is a visible reminder to all Oklahomans of the important role LGBT individuals, families and friends play in our state. Established in 1995, the Equality Center (formerly the Tulsa GLBT Community Center) is now one of the largest LGBT Centers in the region.


Purchased in October of 2005 after an eight-year capital campaign, the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center underwent a complete overhaul through over 7000 hours of volunteer-led renovations, opening in February of 2007. Our beautiful 18,000 square foot facility now represents the design work of a team of professional designers. Featuring an event center, a full-service lending library, a wellness center and more, the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center is a visible presence of LGBT equality in Oklahoma.

Out Youth is a safe place where youth are listened to, supported in good times and bad, and have a chance to learn about themselves and others. We strive to meet youth with acceptance and respect wherever they are in their lives.


Out Youth is a place where youth are challenged to stretch themselves by learning information and skills that they believe will be truly useful in their lives. We believe that youth are the most qualified to define their own needs and interests and we work with each individual to guide that process as needed.


Most importantly, Out Youth is a place where youth are valued and have the opportunity to give back to their own communities in whatever ways they wish. Here, youth can become part of the solution to the problems that most concern them.

LGBT Helping Hands 4/1/10-AIDS Interfaith Network (Dallas, TX)

AIDS Interfaith Network was created in 1986 by a group of clergy and pastoral and lay counselors who were providing spiritual and emotional support services to persons living with HIV/AIDS. These same individuals were attempting to educate clergy, churches, and their congregations about HIV/AIDS in an effort to promote a more compassionate response to those who were struggling with the disease. Rapidly, AIN began to see that clients needed practical support as well as spiritual support, and began recruiting and training volunteers from local churches, synagogues, and other faith organizations to provide in-home, non-nursing support such as, laundry, cooking, cleaning, and other light housework.
These efforts resulted in the creation of the Care Team Program, which has now received awards for outstanding volunteer work from two sitting U.S. Presidents and is the centerpiece of our volunteer services. Pastoral Care Services and Volunteer Support have been integral parts of the history, mission, and purpose of AIN.

LGBT Helping Hands 3/18/10-Us Helping Us, People Into Living

The mission of Us Helping Us, People Into Living, Inc. (UHU) is to improve the health and well being of Black gay men through innovative programs and services and -- through a vision of inclusiveness – to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in the entire Black community. Incorporated in 1988 as a self-help support group for Black gay men living with HIV/AIDS, UHU has become of the largest Black AIDS service organizations in the District of Columbia, serving: heterosexual men and women; gay/bisexual and same-gender-loving men; and transgender individuals.
UHU provides community-level, group-level, and individual-level programs and services, including: a) HIV counseling and testing, partner notification and referrals services; b) case management; c) mental health services; d) street and venue-based outreach; e) the Popular Opinion Leader intervention; f) the D-Up! intervention; g) the Many Men, Many Voices intervention; h) psychosocial services; i) the Healthy Relationships intervention; j) a HIV vaccine initiative; and k) alcohol and drug-free social activities.

A Brief History

AIDS Delaware is the State of Delaware’s first and largest AIDS Service Organization (ASO). The agency was founded in 1984 by a group of concerned volunteer activists addressing the needs of the emerging AIDS community in our state. Over the last 25 years AIDS Delaware has become a professional not-for-profit agency working for the health of the human family.

Unique in Delaware for our range of services, we provide:

• Counseling & Testing: Confidential HIV testing using the latest protocols with pre- and post-testing counseling;
• Case Management: A plan for healthy living that engages the client and his/her family in the process; and,
• Education & Outreach: Programs for our clients and the larger community to foster HIV/AIDS awareness and to encourage safer behaviors and informed decision making.

The Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry (NOVAM) was founded in 1987 by members of concerned faith communities in Northern Virginia who wanted to provide a compassionate response to the AIDS crisis. Since that time, NOVAM has played a significant role in the struggle against the AIDS epidemic by providing responsive programs throughout the region.
The mission of NOVAM is to educate the community about HIV/AIDS, to combat the fear, prejudice, and complacency that surround the disease, and to provide direct services to meet the needs of those who are living with HIV/AIDS. We pledge to serve all those who have been touched by this epidemic, regardless of gender, race, disability, creed, sexual orientation, or national origin.
NOVAM's mission is guided by a clear understanding of the needs of the local community, the particular challenges confronted by people living with HIV and AIDS, and a mandate to respond to the changing face of the epidemic. NOVAM's programs address a two-fold need for prevention of further HIV infection, as well as the critical need to care for people living with HIV and AIDS.

LGBT Helping Hands 3/9/10-The Network/La Red (Boston, MA)

The Network/La Red was formed in 1989 when a group of formerly battered lesbians came together to address domestic violence in lesbian and bisexual women's communities in Boston. Initially the group worked to educate the community and existing programs/resources for battered women about the existence of woman-to-woman battering and the need for programs to address it. In 1991, the group incorporated under the name New England Women's Support, Inc. d/b/a The Network for Battered Lesbians. The Network changed its name to the Network for Battered Lesbians and Bisexual Women in 1996, and in 2000 to The Network/La Red: Ending abuse in lesbian, bisexual women's, and transgender communities.
