The Hypocrisy of James Dobson

I write a lot about Dr. Dobson and his campaign of hate and discrimination against the GLBT community. Here is another piece about Dobson that echoes many of the sentiments I have expressed on this blog. The writer, Robert Parham, is the executive director of the Baptist Center for Ethics.

He writes, "Dobson may have finally gone too far in pushing a political agenda under the guise of morality. Sincere pastors may finally turn him off for transgressing the boundaries between conservative Christian values and political conservative leaders."

We can only hope.

  1. Jim, thank you for caring so much. I saw your post on Jerry Maneker's site and followed your profile here. It is a shame that your mom kept you and your brother apart, but all things happen for a reason. It is in the darkest part of the night that a single candle burns most brightly.

Dobson is trying to control the masses through fear, that is obvious. The thing I can't understand is why other people can't see that. I have never before seen my fellow citizens so readily give up their own opinions to follow like sheep.

Feel free to stop by my site and see what you think. I will be watching to see what else you post, again thanks. The world needs more just men like you, who are willing to stand up for what is right for righteousness' sake alone.

  2. It is sad that Dr. Dobson feels that "protection" of marriage should be a top legislative priority, especially since I am darn sure he can't coherently and rationally articulate the ways in which legal protection for committed same-sex couples undermines "traditional" marriage or otherwise discourages "so-called straight people" (to use Desmond Tutu's phrase) from commitment and procreation.

We have a President who claims that Christian faith guides him, and yet he goes before Congress to insist that we need to be able to torture people in order to protect ourselves. Corporate profits are up 72% since 2001, yet the median wage has fallen 0.5%. 45 million Americans have no access to healthcare coverage. We're throwing billions of dollars and thousands of lives into the occupation of a country that never threatened us and had no capacity to do so, while the guy who actually attacked us is roaming around the mountains of our "allies" Pakistan and Afghanistan. North Korea had zero nuclear weapons in 2001, now they are believed to have at least 8. Iran...

And Dobson supports this guy and his party?

If Bush truly reads the Bible daily, as we're told, he either needs to read faster or devote more time to it. Hopefully he'll get to the New Testament before long.

  3. What should be a top legislative item for a conservative christian is divorce since that is rampant in the church. They should be trying to outlaw divorce. Dobson and his ilk are more about political power than christian concerns about the family. The divorce issue is proof in the puddin'.
