LGBT Helping Hands 9/24/09-A Place For Us (Lakewood, OH)

The vision of A Place For Us Development, Inc. as a nonprofit organization, whose mission is to provide housing, wellness services and cultural and spiritual programming for aging gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered individuals and the broader community. We seek monies to provide services that will address the physical, psychological, educational, spiritual and social needs of our resident members through housing and on site health care services.

It is important to note that this targeted and underserved population of aging Americans within the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community should feel safe, secure and affirmed with dignity and respect. Therefore, APFU’s our purpose to honor their rights as humans by validating their needs. We will assist them to no longer live in the “closet”.

We are proposing to build such a creative and diverse vibrant community, which will welcome all from all generations and walks of life. This community will offer its services to the broader community; thus, creating a wide base network of resources.

We will work collaboratively with other organizations and community resources and on site and off site classes will be encouraged for intergenerational communication. Thus our goal is to focus on creating a community and becoming a visible link to our community’s resources to the community at large.
